Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Fact Sheet
What We Do
The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is a flexible funding source that provides funds to states, tribes, and territories to implement community-based services to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities, and help families and individuals with low incomes become fully self-sufficient. Funded services and activities include housing, nutrition, utility, and transportation assistance; employment, education, and other wealth building services; crisis and emergency assistance; and community asset building initiatives, as well as other services aimed at creating pathways out of poverty.

Eligible Applicants
U.S. states, territories, and federally recognized tribes and tribal organizations are eligible for CSBG funds. Grants are not provided directly to individuals.
Program Highlights
In FY 2021: • CSBG directly funded 50 states, two U.S. territories, and 66 Tribes. • Approximately 1,007 eligible entities received CSBG funding. • Through Project Impact, CSBG funded 16 organizations across the U.S. that will spend 15 months exploring how the service models used to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic can be strengthened and adapted to meet ongoing and future community needs. • CSBG hosted its first annual CSBG Tribal Network Annual Meeting, an event that contributed to a 50 percent increase in tribal leadership participation in CSBG activities.
